Fund Raiser Idea: Sell More than Tickets at Your Recital
by Kristin Brumley

It's the night of your studio's big show and the theater is full of a bustling, excited audience. The performers have worked hard and the opening act is near! Except...oh no...poor Mindy’s parents forgot to get her flowers for her first big part, and Timmy’s grandparents are parched and feeling faint from the venue’s older heating system.
That’s where you can come to the rescue! Make an extra profit for your studio and provide an extra service for your students’ parents by selling more than just tickets at your show. We’ve put together a list of things your audience might really buy (according to the dance studios who have tested them!):
Food & Refreshments
- Candy Bars
- Bottles of Water
- 'Dance Dad' sponsored BBQ
Make this a cost effective option by getting candy bars, water, and any other packaged food at Costco. You can purchase goodies in bulk and store any leftovers between shows! We also love the idea of having parent volunteers provide BBQ for the event, especially if you have the space or the tables already available at the venue. Sell BBQ by the plate or as a buffet option for the audience, and use the proceeds to benefit future shows!
For the Performers
- Themed Gift Baskets
- Inflated Balloons
- Teddy Bears
- Send a ‘Kiss’ Backstage (note to dancer attached to carnation hand-delivered at show)
- Candy Bouquets
- Tap Shoe Repair Kits
- Dance-Themed Coloring Books
There are so many options here! Your students will really appreciate these gifts after their performance, and parents will be happy for the help. You can find more dance related gift ideas from Ballerinas on Canvas, too.
For the Parents
- Dance Souvenirs
- Customized Pointe Shoes (think flowers, feathers, etc)
- 50/50 Raffle
- Studio-branded Car Decals
Parents and community audiences want to leave the show with a souvenir, too. T-shirts and fun raffles are great fundraisers, and can be a way to incorporate local sponsors or a resident artist. Raffle off items from sponsors or accept and sell donations from students--like homemade decorated pointe shoes! The same dance related gifts we listed above might also appeal to your audience.
Let us know if you incorporate some of these ideas or if you’ve sold something else that worked out for your show! This is just one other way we are providing you the best customer service as your perfect dance partners.
